Work History

July, 2002 - Present: Gwaltney & Associates, Managing Principal

Re-created business operations for insurance, risk management, and business consulting firm. Agency sells all-lines consumer products, maintains General Agency licensure for sub-agents. Efforts include management and training of employees and contract staff members, agency procedures development, implementation and government compliance, automation acquisition, installation, procedures and training, and liaison for consumer, legislative, and statutory concerns. Provides a broad range of business consultation for management, office procedure development and implementation, technical writing, and automation. Prepared seminar training for numerous industry professionals in the areas of risk management, office efficiency and automation. Aided with proposal and non-profit grant package preparation, and prepared numerous software documentation models and modules.

March, 2002 - December, 2002: The Alaska Club, General Manager

Originally hired to manage and operate 6th largest health club facility in U.S. Subsequently was given additional club facilities totally over 300,000 square feet in operations including: restaurant, tennis courts, fitness facilities, group fitness activities, janitorial, engineering/maintenance, sales force, swimming pool, racquetball courts, etc. Oversaw management of approximately 250 employees through the use of 15 department managers. Responsible for all areas of club performance including effectiveness ratings and profitability. Doubled effectiveness rating of initial club within 60-days of employment and presented largest profit margin in 13 club network.

January, 2002- May, 2002: AAA Alaska Insurance Company, Territory Manager

Originally hired to manage sales force offering personal lines auto products. Reviewed business and marketing plans, reported to Management (CSAA, AAA Mountain West Insurance Company) that Alaskan operations did not appear feasible in current condition. Upon corporate concurrence, position was re-classified to manage shut-down and limited reorganization. Successfully closed designated offices and became contract manager during re-structure. Brought company from an excess of 300% loss to zero based budget while maintaining all statewide contractual obligations. Maintained position as compliance officer and aided in training management replacement. Company survived as current "competitor," with mutual referral base.

June, 2000- January, 2002: Sabbatical

July, 1999 - June, 2000: National Bank of Alaska Insurance Services, LLC, Statewide Operations Manager

Lead transition team for automation and agency processes for the largest agency workforce in Alaska. Installed hardware and software and trained 40+ employees in transactional filing and other agency customer service procedures. Concurrently maintained largest written premium book of commercial lines business in the agency and processed daily and operations accounting during acquisition period. Assisted in transition team for Wells-Fargo purchase of NBAIS, LLC.

October, 1992 - June, 2000: Alaska Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers, Inc.

Worked on behalf of Independent Insurance Agent's of America's Alaska Chapter (AIIAB) as Board of Director Member, Chair of most committees, and corporate officer. Primary responsibilities included representing Alaska at national meetings and performing grass roots lobbying in Washington, D.C. and State Capital. Testified on numerous bills and statutory regulation hearings at the State level and represented the insurance industry during the first continuing education implementation and review process.

May, 1984 - July, 1999: Gwaltney & Gwaltney, Inc. , President/Managing Principal

Built and maintained all-lines insurance agency operations from zero-basis. Sold all-lines consumer products, maintained General Agency licensure for sub-agents, and coordinated market representation for Property and Casualty lines. Efforts included purchase of four agencies, management and training of up to sixteen employee and thirty contract staff members, agency procedures development, implementation and government compliance, automation acquisition, installation, procedures and training, and liaison for consumer, legislative, and statutory concerns.

May, 1982 - September, 1984: Thomas Edwards Enterprises, Contract Designer, Proprietor

Performed general technical services for architectural, graphics, and industrial design. Projects included several architectural projects, industrial design for numerous petroleum handling systems on the North Slope, design team member for world's first fully mobile oilrig, graphics design and printing for several oil company publications, and an unprecedented eight-year member of Prudhoe Bay Unit Five Year Plan team dealing with project management, financial modeling, graphics presentations and reporting.
